This week, we spoke with experts to refine our focus and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges we’re addressing. Here’s what stood out:
1. Managing Stress at Home
Modern stress doesn’t stop at the door. Dr. Sarit Steinmetz, a clinical psychologist, and Keren Kotzer, a mindfulness-based psychotherapist, highlighted how constant notifications and endless to-dos blur the line between work and home. Creating "digital-free zones" and practicing mindfulness can transform the home into a space of relaxation and renewal.
2. Children’s Nutrition
Nutrition often sparks conflict at home. Experts Masada Heisler, a family nutrition coach, and Sharon Shani, a parent educator, emphasized that change must start with parents modeling healthy habits. A positive, family-wide approach can shift mealtime from a source of tension to an opportunity for connection.
3. Preserving Family Memories
For older adults, loneliness and a loss of purpose often stem from weakened social ties. Spiritual counselor Idit Portal shared the importance of nurturing meaningful connections and creating ways to preserve and share family stories, fostering a sense of belonging.
Key Challenges Identified:
Loneliness and Loss of Purpose: Many older adults experience loneliness, not just due to a lack of social interaction but because of a gap between their desire for meaningful connections and the reality of their daily lives.
Loss of Identity Post-Retirement: For many, a professional identity provided a sense of purpose. The transition into retirement often leaves a void, amplifying feelings of insignificance.
Fading Memories: The fear of being forgotten or losing touch with one’s life story can heighten feelings of irrelevance.
